Looking from a little distance, this rectangular box seems to be wrapped by a brocade bundle knotted in the center of the box cover. When you approach it, you will find that the bundle skin is actually carved from a pile of paint ash, and the surface is painted with silver gray paint. In the diamond grid, the yellow, red, black and other colors are used to decorate flowers, longevity characters and tortoise back brocade patterns. Due to the exquisite and meticulous production, the wrinkling effect of the brocade package is lifelike and can be almost unreal. The four exposed corners of the box cover are decorated with bergamot, pomegranate, and peach with black paint and gold painting techniques, commonly known as “sanduo”, which respectively means more happiness, more children, and more longevity. The inside of the cover and the box are sprayed with gold, and the bottom of the box is painted with silver gray paint. Clever conception, bright and not vulgar colors are the outstanding features of this work. According to the relevant literature, it can be found that the wrapped lacquered box was mainly used to hold glasses and sickles (bags) during the Yongzheng period

② Samuha, the leader of the 10th year of Yongzheng reign, issued two pieces of foreign lacquered wrapper-type boxes and said that the palace supervisor led Chen Fu to deliver a message: This box is very good, so we can still make some black and red lacquered boxes, and paint some flower lacquered boxes. Moreover, there is a hole in the bottom of a box, so it is not necessary to do this. Thank you. On the first day of May, the eleventh year, two pairs of lacquered boxes were made according to the sample, and one pair was the same as the original one. The treasurer, Chang Bao, and the leader, Samuha, submitted them to the warehouse
The decorative theme of brocade packages was initiated in the reign of Emperor Yongzheng of the Qing Dynasty and further developed in the reign of Emperor Qianlong. In addition to lacquerware, there are also works handed down from generation to generation, such as copper body painting enamel package pattern cover pot and porcelain body painting enamel brocade package pattern bottle. According to the records of the Manufacturing Office, Emperor Qianlong once ordered Guanghai to carefully copy one of the enamel package cover pots with the Yongzheng style of copper body painting, but the Qianlong style should be dropped, which reflected Qianlong’s love for the brocade package pattern from another side.
