Rib gold paper

[Ribbed gilded paper]

Ribbed gilded paper, Qingyongzheng, 133 cm long and 65 cm wide
Ribbed gilded paper is a kind of rice paper. The paper surface has obvious cross patterns of horizontal and vertical fine lines, but it is different from the curtain pattern. The paper is light yellow, and it is finely made with fine gold foil. Luo Wenjian was first seen in Su Yijian’s “Four Manual of the Study” in the Northern Song Dynasty: “A thin cloth is used to paste the paper first, making it strong, and those with the original texture hidden are called ‘Ribbed Paper’.” Ribbed paper in the Qing Dynasty has been improved and developed. The process is complex and decorated with gold foil. It is thicker than ordinary rice paper, not easy to seep, and its texture is fine. At the time of Kangxi and Yongzheng, Wang Chengzhi, a famous craftsman in Hangzhou, made wide curtain rib paper with copper wire curtain, which was imitated by many people in the world. The one made with bamboo curtain was called “narrow curtain rib”. Ribbed paper is one of the most popular paper products in the Qing Dynasty. It is exquisitely made and decorated with gold foil.
