Carmine glaze was first fired in the late Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty. It was fired in Yongzheng, Qianlong, Jiaqing, Guangxu and other dynasties, of which Yongzheng had the largest output and the best quality. It is a low temperature red glaze made of trace gold (Au) as a colorant and baked in the furnace at about 800 ℃. Because this kind of red material is imported from Europe, it is called “magenta” or “western red”, while the western countries often call it “rose” or “rose”. This red glaze is also known as “rouge” because it is quite like the color of rouge used for women’s makeup. The color of carmine glaze can be divided into deep and light. The deep one is called “carmine purple”, the light one is called “carmine water”, and the lighter one is called “light pink”. In the 13th year of Yongzheng’s reign (1735), Tang Ying, the governor of pottery, wrote in the “Chronicle of the Formation of Pottery”, which recorded that 57 kinds of glazed and colored porcelain produced by Gong Yu at that time included “western red vessels”. From the perspective of handed down products, the carmine glaze porcelain of the Yongzheng Dynasty has the shapes of bottles, pots, plates, bowls, cups, dishes, etc., all of which are light and thin, exquisite and handsome, most of which are white glaze inside, carmine glaze outside, and a few of which are carmine glaze inside and outside.
