[Black-glazed gold-drawn high-foot cup]

Black-glazed gold-drawn cloud-drawn high-foot cup, Qing Yongzheng, height 9 cm, caliber 7 cm, foot diameter 5.9 cm. The old collection of the Qing Palace
Cup skimming, deep belly, hollow high circle foot. White glaze is applied inside, and black glaze is applied outside with gold decoration. The abdomen has the pattern of two dragons playing with pearls, and the foot surface has the pattern of sea waves. The whole body decoration is painted with gold color single line, the decoration is clear, the picture is sparse and clear, elegant and simple. Apply white glaze inside the feet. In the foot, there are six characters of blue and white regular script “made in Yongzheng year of the Qing Dynasty” in clockwise direction
The gold color decoration in China’s porcelain began in the Song Dynasty, and was written in the Notes of the Southern Kiln in the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, which said: “The gold painting began in the Song Dynasty, and the Hutian Kiln has a kind of plain porcelain painting gold.” The Wu and Yue Bei Shi also recorded: “In the fifth year of the Taiping Xingguo (980 A.D.)… on September 11, the Wang Jin Dynasty thanked at the Chongde Hall, and restored the gold decoration”. It shows that porcelain decorated with gold color has appeared in the Hutian and Ding kilns of the Song Dynasty
The gold color decoration technology of Qing Dynasty porcelain has made great progress, and its application is also more extensive. The varieties include blue ground gold painting, black gold glaze gold painting, copper red glaze gold painting, alum red color gold painting, multicolored gold painting, etc. Yin Hongxu, a French missionary, once recorded the process of making the gold color in Jingdezhen Porcelain Factory: if you want to make the gold color, you should grind the gold and pour it into the porcelain bowl to make it mixed with water and precipitate until there is a layer of gold at the bottom of the water. Keep it dry at ordinary times, take part of it, dissolve it in a proper amount of rubber water, and then add a proper amount of lead powder. The ratio of gold and lead powder is 30:3. The method of gilding porcelain is the same as that of coloring. Use this adjusted gold color material to paint on the porcelain, and then burn it in the kiln at low temperature
Black glaze is a kind of shiny, transparent, black and lacquery-like high-temperature glaze. Because the glaze material is mainly from the black gold soil produced near Jingdezhen, it is also called “black gold glaze”. It is made of iron oxide (Fe2O3) as the colorant, with appropriate amount of manganese dioxide (MnO2) and cobalt oxide (CoO), green body is hung with glaze, and fired at high temperature. It prevailed during the Kangxi and Yongzheng periods. During the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty, Tang Ying, the supervisor of Jingdezhen kiln, wrote in the “Chronicle of Pottery Completion”: “There are two kinds of newly made imitation black gold glaze, white flowers on the black ground and gold on the black ground.” This tall cup is the variety of “gold on the black ground”, which is an innovative variety of antique imitation at that time. In the fourth year of Yongzheng’s reign, the archives of the Office of Internal Affairs of the Qing Dynasty recorded: “On March 13, Councillor Lang Hai Wang held one arched white magnetic target cup and one black-glazed gold dragon magnetic target cup. The purpose was to make this target cup into a Western railing in the form of a plate. The target cup or twelve or eighteen plates should be placed firmly. The plate can be painted or made of palm wood. Here is the reason. On the seventh day of May, Councillor Lang Hai Wang made two Gaoli wooden balustrades and two purple medical wood balustrades and two magnetic target cups, and presented them to the end.” It can be seen that this cup was made in the fourth year of Yongzheng’s reign (1726), which also shows that the Qing Palace attached great importance to and appreciated this variety.
