The 7th Dalai Lama Gesangjiatso (1708-1757) is a native of Litang, Sichuan Province. In the 58th year of Kangxi’s reign (1719), Emperor Kangxi conferred him as the 7th Dalai Lama. The next year, he sat down in the Potala Palace and received the “seal of the 6th Dalai Lama to promote Dharma awareness”. In the 16th year of Qianlong’s reign (1751), the Qing government ordered the 7th Dalai Lama to take charge of the local power in Tibet
In the picture, Gesangatso is solemn, sitting with folded hands, holding lotus in his right hand, and holding Buddhist scriptures in his left hand. In the picture, there are three eminent monks in the middle of the square. They are Zongkaba and his two major disciples, Jia Caojie and Ke Zhujie. They are honored as the “three masters and disciples” by the Gelug Sect. At the top left of the picture is the Vajra of Dawei, and at the top right is the White Tara; The top left side is the fifth Panchen Lama and Sakyamuni, and the top right side is Manjusri Bodhisattva and Miaoyin Bodhisattva; The lower left is the Yan Devil, the middle is the auspicious Heavenly Mother, and the right is the Huang Caibao Dharma Protector
On the back of the Thangka, there is a four-body inscription in Han-Man-Mongolia-Tibet with white silk, in which the Chinese text reads: “On the sixth day of March of the 26th year of Qianlong’s reign, the emperor ordered Zhang Jiahu Tuke to recognize the origin and flow of the Dalai Lama as an axis.” There is another yellow bar: “In the middle, this sample is divided into 13 axes”, which means that the group of paintings of the origin and flow of the Dalai Lama has 13 axes in total, and this is the central axis.
