This Thangka divides the picture into several plots with floating clouds, rolling mountains, palaces and other scenery, and tells the life story of Bantoga Venerable. Bantoga, whose mother was a rich girl, gave birth to two sons on the way to flight. The elder, named “Lachin”, means “the road”, later converted to Buddhism and won the title of Arohango
The Buddha of Bantoga is dressed in cassocks, holding scriptures in his right hand, making a statement in his left hand, and sitting with half open arms. Zhou Za painted the life story of the Venerable. The main idea of the Tibetan language in the painting is: the main road was born, the old woman taught the notes, carried the children’s main road, the heresy was the main road, the hearsay and so on, the teacher and his family said, the main road went home, the main road learned from the heresy, a disciple urged the main road to visit the teacher, the monks taught the monks precepts for the main road, and came to Shewei State, 500 Brahmans became monks with the main road, and the main road listened to the teacher and became the hearsay disciple
On the back of the Thangka, there is a white silk label, which is inscribed in four characters of Han, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan in ink. The Chinese text is: “On February 17, Qianlong’s forty-third year, the emperor ordered Zhang Jia to recognize the person who saw the portrait of Bantuojia… the third from the left”.
