Shangle Wangfo Thangka

[Shangle Wangfo Thangka]

Shangle Wangfo Thangka, 18th century, Tibet, cloth, color, 138 cm high, 83 cm wide, 68 cm vertical and 46.5 cm horizontal. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The Thangka of the King of Music Buddha is in the center. It is a common image of a blue double body with twelve arms on all sides. It embraces the Princess Vajrayana and stands on the lotus platform on the right. The sky is blue, with auspicious clouds in the middle, which surround the seventh Dalai Lama Gesangjiatso. On the left is the achievement of Seluferupo, and on the right is the second Buddha, Tsongkhapa. The lower boundary is painted with three Dharmapala deities, namely, the four-armed warrior Dharmapala on the left, the Vajra Yoga Mother in the middle, and the Shitulin Master on the right. The color of the picture is simple and elegant, and the background color is mainly cyan, which is in strong contrast with the orange flame of the master without losing harmony. The painting also pays attention to the gradual change of color to show the spatial change of the sky and the stereoscopic sense of the object image, and uses perspective to depict the far and near levels of mountains and rivers. The painting techniques are mature and diverse
On the back of the Thangka, there is a four-body ink script in Han, Manchu and Mongolian with white silk, and the Chinese text is: “On December 24, the forty-eighth year of Qianlong’s reign, the emperor ordered Zhang Jiahu Tuktu to recognize and worship the benefit portrait of the Yin body of the King Buddha of Music…”.
