Sakyamuni Buddha Thangka

[Sakyamuni Buddha Thangka]

Sakyamuni Buddha Thangka, 18th century, inland, cloth, color, 171 cm high, 80 cm wide, 99 cm vertical and 59 cm horizontal. The old collection of the Qing Palace
Sakyamuni is the founder of Buddhism and the master of Xianmi Sect. Sakyamuni means “the sage of Sakyamuni”, and Buddha means “the Buddha”, which means “the enlightened”. In this painting, Sakyamuni Buddha has a ready-made Taoist appearance. His face is gentle, his hair is high in a bun, and he is wearing a right field phase cassock. His right hand is hanging on his right knee with a touchdown seal, also known as the “Devil Subduing Seal”. His left hand is placed on a flat bowl in front of his belly, and he sits on the lotus throne with folded hands, bearing the constellation of Sumi Leo. A table is set in front of the seat, and various offerings are presented. The backlight behind him is beautiful and dignified. This axis is finely drawn, and its composition and figure modeling are slightly reminiscent of the early Nepalese painting school. The support of the sky in the clouds is strong in the Han style. The vocal disciple in front of the dharma seat is slim, with a beautiful face, wearing a shoulder-length cassock, with smooth clothing patterns, like the blue leaf painting method. This is a good inland Thangka painting with the ancient style of Tibetan painting
There is a white silk label on the back of the Thangka, which is inscribed in Chinese, Manchu, Mongolian and Tibetan characters in four characters. The Chinese text is: “On the fifth day of November of the fifty-fourth year of Qianlong’s reign, the emperor ordered Galdanxi to recognize and worship the benefit portrait of Sakyamuni Buddha…”.
