Colorful siege rectangular porcelain plate, Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, 25 cm long, 19.2 cm wide and 3.5 cm thick
The porcelain plate is rectangular and hollow, with jacks on the side. Both sides are decorated with green space dotted with evenly spaced flowers on the ground. One side of the porcelain plate is painted with a five-color siege map. In front of the gate, the generals of the two armies are wearing armor, holding machetes and halberds, and riding on horses to fight head-on. The soldiers of the two armies are holding long guns and shields. The picture outlines the figures, horses, rocks, roofs and battle flags in black color, and uses flat painting techniques to apply red, green, purple, yellow, gold and other colors to make the characters vivid. The other side of the porcelain plate is painted with five colors
There are many paintings of war scenes (commonly known as knife-and-horse people) in the porcelain of the Kangxi Dynasty. Their popularity is related to the Emperor Kangxi’s advocacy of martial arts practice and the admonition of “never forget the hard-won nature of the river and the mountains”. The paintings depict the tense scenes of the two armies fighting and galloping. Most of these patterns appear on the artifacts of folk kilns, and there are records in the literature that “there are more folk kilns than ordinary opera stories”. Influenced by the Chen Laolian school of figure painters in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties, the figure images are exaggerated and distinctive
