This picture is entitled “negative soil map”. The payment is signed with the words “written by Yu Zhiding of Emperor Kangxi’s Dingchou in the midsummer of Guangling”, and stamped with the words “Yu Zhiding” and “Shangji”. Ding Chou was in the 36th year of Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1697), and Yu Zhiding was 51 years old. There are postscripts written by Zhang Ying, Gao Shiqi, Sun Yinglong, etc
This picture depicts the scene of Weng Songnian and his servants carrying civil graves for the deceased relatives. In the painting, Weng Song wears a square scarf and looks solemn. He is wrapped with hemp rope around his waist, leaning on a stick with his right hand, standing on the side of the bridge, pointing forward, and facing the two servants. In the background, lush trees, wild grass, small bridges and flowing water are remote and quiet. Weng Songnian’s negative deeds were regarded as an example of filial piety, and thus were praised by people in the postscript
The faces of the main characters in the painting are haloed with light ink, and then painted with ochre, which is lifelike and has both form and spirit. The clothing pattern is painted with “blue leaf tracing”, which is natural and elegant. The servant used only a few strokes to mark out his clothes and bare legs in bold lines, with the meaning of “nail head and mouse tail”, highlighting the dynamics of the characters
The composition of this volume is quite ingenious. It is secondary to the main. The static state contains momentum, and the background is desolate and silent. It shows the elegant bearing and sad mood of the protagonist.
