The man standing by the stream in the painting is named Qiao Chongxiu, and “Niantang” is his character. The Qiao family is a famous and scholarly family. Niantang’s father, Qiao Lai (1642-1694), was named Zijing, Shilin, and painted Chuanyilao. He was the author of Yi Yi. It can be seen from the sentence “This gentleman is in his thirtieth birthday” in the title of the painting that Qiao Chongxiu was just over thirty years old. In the picture, according to Su Dongpo’s poem “Three Vertical Pens”, “The ancient road by the stream has three forks, and the independent setting sun counts the number of people”, the ancient wood is painted and the memorial hall is independent at the stream. The characters in the close shot stand on the shore in cloth robes and hats, with a relaxed and comfortable manner, showing a kind of transcendental feelings. In the distance, pedestrians of all kinds come and go on the small bridge. The portrait in the picture mainly uses the method of line drawing, and the clothing lines are natural and elegant. The background of the tree is clear and moist, and the artistic conception is clear and distant.
