Blue and white “Hongfu Zhuan” picture mallet bottle, Kangxi, Qing Dynasty, 45.3 cm high, 13.3 cm caliber, 14.7 cm foot diameter
Bottle plate mouth, short neck, full shoulder, long straight belly, round foot. Full body blue and white decoration. Triangle pattern is painted along the mouth and Ruyi pattern is painted on the neck. The belly is painted with the legend “The Legend of Red Whisk”. The central figure in the picture is Yang Su, an important minister of Emperor Yang of the Sui Dynasty. Behind him stand two geishas, one of whom is Zhang Linghua, a Hongfu girl. She admired the talent of Li Jing who came to visit her, so she ran away with Li and became a husband and wife, and assisted Li Jiangong in his career. This allusion is also known as “knowing heroes with insight”
The shape of this device was created during the reign of Emperor Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty. It is named for its shape like a mallet. The color of blue and white ware is green and gorgeous, reflecting the characteristics of folk kiln blue and white ware in the Kangxi period of the Qing Dynasty.
