Lapis lazuli facing beads, Kangxi of the Qing Dynasty, with a circumference of 150 cm
The Chaozhu is made of 108 lapis lazuli beads, with four coral beads. The beads on the upper end (also known as sub-inlay) are connected with a small coral Buddha head. The Buddha head has holes. It is connected with a silver gilded tourmaline pendant with a yellow ribbon, and the silver gilded tourmaline pendant is below. Three commemorative strings are made of coral beads, with red and sapphire inlays on the falling corners
The emperor wore different quality of beads on different occasions, amber or honey wax beads when offering sacrifices to the earth, red coral beads when offering sacrifices to the sun, turquoise beads when offering sacrifices to the moon, and lapis lazuli beads when offering sacrifices to the sky, as well as green robes and smoked ermine crowns.
