The dial needle of this sundial is special. It is composed of a silk thread connecting the frame column and the small hole of the time dial. At the same time, this instrument also has the function of measuring the height of the sun. A vernier is set at the lower end of the frame column, and the two ends of the table are provided with vertical ears for collimation
When using, the compass first determines the north and south, and then looks at the shadow of the thin line on the time plate, which is the desired time. For example, rotate the cursor on the frame to align it with the sun. At this time, the scale on the semicircle indicated by the upper end of the cursor is the height of the sun
The time dial of the sundial is engraved with the style of “Made in the summer of the fortieth year of Kangxi”
