[Deer horn chair]
The Emperor Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty was 131 cm high, 92 cm wide, and 76.5 cm deep
The chair is a circular chair. The back of the chair is made of the full horn of a deer, and the horn root is connected to the skull of the deer. The fork on the corner happened to replace the goose neck and the gang stick of the armchair. The back uses two antlers as a support, and the middle panel
The front and both sides of the seat surface are slightly inward concave, the side edge is wrapped, and an ivory strip is inlaid in the middle as the boundary. The two sides and the back of the seat surface are inlaid with bone carving and cloud pattern sitting teeth, which are connected with the back of the antler ring. The front and back of the seat surface are made of two deer’s retroflex horn. The horn forks symmetrically and inwardly form the supporting horn, and the horn root part outwards and forms the outward inverted horseshoe. A foot pedal is attached to the front of the chair, which is made of the horns of two deer. This chair skillfully combines the natural shape of antlers with the shape and use function of the chair, showing the spirit of bold innovation and superb artistic talent of the craftsman, and becomes a unique furniture variety in the Qing Dynasty
The back of the chair is engraved with a poem made by the Emperor Qianlong in official script:
“The chair was made in the 37th year of Qianlong’s reign (1772), and the poem is made of deer hunted by Emperor Kangxi
