This atlas has a total of 53 pages, depicting the story of the good fortune boy who visited 53 famous teachers and finally achieved good results as described in the Buddhist sutra “Huayan Sutra”, but the figures embroidered in this atlas have actually become folk. The picture of the atlas is embroidered with more than ten kinds of needle methods, including flat needle, loose needle and set needle, uniform needle (including horizontal needle, straight needle and oblique needle), rolling needle, connecting needle, nail needle, plate gold, flat gold, grab needle, knitting needle, net needle, chicken hair needle, seed, scaly needle, etc., supplemented with pigment such as stone blue, stone green and ochre. The colors are rich and exquisite, with more than 20 kinds of color lines, such as gold, orange, camel yellow, vermilion, pink, orange, sapphire blue, dark blue, moon white, grass green, fruit green, brown, brown, and grape grey. The embroidered figures are numerous, but the clothes, gestures and expressions are different, and the shapes are exaggerated and vivid, which is similar to the meticulous figure painting style of Ding Yunpeng and Wu Bin in the late Ming Dynasty
This atlas is the epitome of Gu Embroidery’s needlework and color application. It fully shows the characteristics of Gu Embroidery, such as fine silk, changeable needlework, harmonious color matching, and combination of embroidery and painting. It is a masterpiece of exquisite embroidery art. Each time the ink book is opened, “Zhao Yongbai, the Buddhist disciple,” is embroidered with “Yong”. The scripture of Prajna Paramita Heart Sutra in the last ink book was embroidered with “Luxiang Garden” and “Elk Lord” respectively.
