Ivory Carved Group of Immortal Birthday Celebrations Dragon Boat, 58 cm high, 91.5 cm long and 23.5 cm wide
The dragon boat has its head up and its tail up. It has three floors of pavilions. The upper floor is equipped with dragon and phoenix flags and umbrella covers. The middle floor has a wide platform, and the lower floor is the cabin. Each floor has carved beams and painted rafters, which is exquisite, delicate and beautiful. There are 42 people in the boat, including the Queen Mother, the Goddess of Heaven, the Eight Immortals, the Three Stars of Fortune, Wealth and Life, and the boatman and musicians
This dragon boat was a tribute made by the minister of the Qing Palace’s Ministry of Internal Affairs on the 60th birthday of Empress Dowager Cixi, and was made by the ivory craftsman in the ivory workshop in Guangzhou. The author uses a variety of techniques such as engraving, embossing, circular carving, mosaic, dyeing, etc. The scales of the boat body are dense, the pavilions are beautiful and gorgeous, and the patterns of lotus, treasure, melon and fruit are complex and changeable. As a large furnishings, this work ranks second to none among the ivory carving handicrafts in the late Qing Dynasty
