Yuanjiang Tide Map Axis

[Yuanjiang Tide Map Axis]

Tide Map Axis, Qing Dynasty, Yuanjiang painting, silk, color, vertical 97 cm, horizontal 131 cm
The title of this picture is: “The painting of Yuan Jiang in the Han Dynasty in March of Bingshen.” It is sealed by “Yuan Jiang’s seal” and “Yuan Wentao in the Han Dynasty”
This picture is Yuan Jiang’s early work, depicting the magnificent scenery of the Qiantang spring tide. Due to its special geographical situation, the Qiantang River in Zhejiang Province has formed an unusually spectacular flood season, and the tide watching has become an annual grand event. This picture adopts a diagonal composition, which is quite influenced by the corner composition of Ma Yuan and Xia Gui in the Southern Song Dynasty. The stone pavilions are concentrated in the lower left corner, while most of the picture is used to show the surging tide and the faint distant mountains, which fully shows the surging grandeur of the river tide. The mountain and stone texturing method mostly uses the brush of Li Cheng and Guo Xi of the Northern Song Dynasty for reference. The river painting method is meticulous and rigorous, and also has the lingering charm of the Song Dynasty.
