This painting reads: “In the Guiyou Qing Dynasty and the Rain Window, I wrote a long scroll song about the spring festival of the Great Idiot, and Shi Lun Xunian wrote a picture with plain paper, so I wrote the meaning of it, Wang Yuanqi.” The seal of “Wang Yuanqi”, “Lutai”, and “Guqizhai” was sealed. In the lower right corner, there are two seals, such as “Xuzhai Identification”
The poetry hall has three titles, Chen Yuanlong, Sun Yuexuan, Hu Huien, and “Treasures in the Leisure Room”

This painting was created by the painter at the age of 52 in the 32nd year of Kangxi’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1693), imitating the style of the painting master Huang Gongwang of the Yuan Dynasty’s masterpiece “The Painting of Dwelling in Fuchun Mountains”. It shows the painter’s profound skills and superb attainments in terms of business location, the ups and downs of mountains, and the use of brush and ink. Huang Gongwang used his pen to loosen the old and spicy style in the Painting of Fuchun Mountain Dwelling. Wang Yuanqi knew Huang Gongwang’s painting style like the palm of his hand, and formed his own painting style in the process of continuous copying. In this painting, he can use the chapping and spotting with ease and superb skills, especially in the application of pen and ink. He uses the brush first, then the ink, and then the halo dye several times, from light to thick, gradually increasing, and finally breaking up with the scorched ink, giving a heavy feeling. The mountains and scenery are thicker, more rigorous and more detailed than those painted by Huang Gongwang. Wang Yuanqi’s painting style is very distinctive among the “Four Kings”. He developed Dong Qichang’s pursuit of abstract ink forms with stylized characteristics. The purpose of his paintings is to entertain his temperament, which is significantly different from that of Western painting, which focuses on reality.
