Rhinoceros horn carved lotus crab lotus leaf cup

[Rhinoceros horn carved lotus crab lotus leaf cup]

Rhinoceros horn carved lotus crab lotus leaf cup, early Qing Dynasty, 7.9 cm high, 12.4 caliber × 8.4 cm
The cup is made of Asian rhinoceros horn. The whole cup is in the shape of lotus leaves. The lotus leaves are converging into the cup body. The handle is bent upward to the edge of the mouth to form a flat bottom. The end of the handle is connected with the bottom of the cup, and the handle also flows. Pour it into the cup, and you can drink it at the end of the handle, which is wonderful. The body of the cup is carved with lotus leaves, flowers, peonies, water plants, etc., implying purity and wealth. This cup is skilled in carving, vivid in scenery, proper in complexity and simplicity, reasonable in layout, and highly artistic in appreciation. What is more ingenious is that the author carved a crab under the lotus leaf on the inner edge of the cup. The manner of its open teeth and claws makes people laugh, achieving the organic combination of movement and stillness, and the fresh and natural air leaps from the cup.
