[Gao Fenghan Lotus Painting Axis]
The Lotus Painting Axis, Qing Dynasty, Gao Fenghan painting, paper, color, 172 cm in vertical and 62 cm in horizontal
The picture shows the autumn color of the lotus pond. The lotus looks like hidden if it looks like it is leaning up in the autumn wind. The lotus leaves are either splashed with thick ink to show vitality, or haloed with ochre to show withering. The whole picture shows the artistic conception of “boundless blue lotus leaves connecting with the sky” in the blending of ink and color. The author expresses his bold and unrestrained feelings with free and unrestrained pen and ink
The inscription on this page reads: “The person who left the paper and painting in Chengxi Pavilion for many years. Ding Weiyu will have a long trip in the winter, but he will take a break from the rain and will immediately be splashed with ink. He is a resident of Nancun.” The seal is “Gao Fenghan’s seal”, the white seal, and “Zhong Weiyi’s word in Xiyuan”, the Zhu seal
“Ding Wei” refers to the fifth year of Yongzheng in the Qing Dynasty (1727), when Gao Fenghan was 45 years old
