[Jiulaotu Yushan in Huichang]
Jiulaotu Yushan in Huichang, Qianlong in the Qing Dynasty, has a total height of 145 cm and a maximum circumference of 245 cm. It weighs 832kg
Yushan is made of Hotan Jade in Xinjiang. The work was completed in 1786, the fifty-first year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty. Three-dimensional carving, which uses various techniques such as carving, deep and shallow relief, and overcast line carving to carve a landscape figure with a view on all sides. Some scholars and scholars in the mountains talk on the small bridge, some play chess in the pavilion, some play piano, some look far, and some climb with sticks. The little boys either cooked tea, followed with bags, or listened. On the top of the front of Yushan, there are four characters of “ancient and rare Tianzi” in yin seal, five characters of “Huichang Jiulao Tu” in official script on the left, and five characters of “Qianlong Bingwu system” in the lower part of the pavilion. On the top of the back is a seven-character poem inscribed by Emperor Qianlong
The “Nine Old People in Huichang” depicts the story of nine famous literati and scholar-bureaucrats, including Bai Juyi, who gathered in Xiangshan, Henan Province for a banquet in the fifth year of Huichang in the Tang Dynasty (845). Jade carvers in the Qing Dynasty used their superb skills to design this fascinating story into a beautiful scene to carve on this large jade mountain
The overall shape of Yushan is simple and vigorous, and the design is very poetic and picturesque, full of rich flavor of life
