[The picture of birds flying in the clear sky of Hua Yan]

The picture of birds flying in the clear sky of Hua Yan, the fan page, Qing Dynasty, Hua Yan painting, paper edition, color setting, 17.3 cm vertically and 50.3 cm horizontally
The fan page has its own title: “It is written with a wisp of clear clouds and birds flying near it. It is Mr. Fengchuan’s elegant reference. It is from Mount Silla.” It is sealed with the white square seal of “Hua Yan”
The picture shows the old man leisurely under the tree, watching the flying cranes. The whole picture is ingeniously conceived. The crane, as one of the main characters of the painting, does not occupy the main position of the painting and is mainly displayed. Instead, it is painted on the upper left side of the fan, almost out of the painting. It was paid attention to completely through the old man’s concentrated look up, invisible eyes through the blank picture, and successfully linked the crane with the old man, thus it can be seen that the author has reached a good situation in the portrayal of the figure’s posture and eyes
There is no model year in this picture, but it can be inferred from the sparse style of painting between fine brushwork and reduced freehand brushwork that it should be the work of Hua Yan in his later years. On the basis of the patriarchal clan Chen Hongshou, Qiu Ying and Song people’s brush and ink, Hua Yan absorbed Ma Hezhi’s “leech drawing” and “blue leaf drawing” line drawing method in his later years. Since then, his style of painting has changed into a loose and simple brush, with the beauty of loose and implicit
