Green field stone, square, plain side style. In seal script, in vermilion script, read the seven words “Matsushita Qingzhai picking dew sunflower” from the top right. The official script on the side is engraved with “Zhu Wenzhen respects the seal character”
This stone seal is extracted from the poem of Wang Wei in the Tang Dynasty, “The Works of Wangchuan Villa in the Accumulated Rain”. “Qingzhai” means “vegetarian”. The ancients must wait for the dew to dissolve when picking sunflowers, so it is called “dew sunflower”, that is, winter sunflower. Song Yu, the poet of the Warring States Period, also said, “Cook the soup of dew sunflower”. Wang Wei used this code because he had a long fast in his old age. This stone seal is well-proportioned, stretchy and sagging. This seal is one of the many seals of Jiusi Hall under Zhu Wenzhen’s control for Yongrong.
