This work is recorded from Su Shi’s “Notes on the Common Essay of Europe” in Volume V of Dongpo Postscript. It describes the method of writing and has a great influence on later generations. The book was written in 1785, the fiftieth year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty, when Liang Tongshu was 63 years old. The composition of this work is simple and clear, and the pen is gentle and elegant, skilled and exquisite. It is the masterpiece of Liang’s middle and late running script.
