[Axis of Hongren Pottery Nunnery]

Axis of Pottery Nunnery, Qing Dynasty, Hongren painting, paper, ink, vertical 99.1 cm, horizontal 58.3 cm
This is a sketch from life that the author sent to his friend Wang Yaode. Wang Yaode (1620-1685), with the name of Zi Tao, the name of Tao Nunnery, Zi Weng Jushi, is a Qiankou native of She County (see the Kangxi Annals of She County). In his early years, he lived in Songjiang as a guest and interacted with scholars such as Dong Qichang and Chen Jiru. In his later years, he lived for 30 years and entertained himself with painting and calligraphy. This picture is the place where Wang Yaode lived in seclusion when Hongren and his friend Luo Yi (a native of Shexian County) visited Mount Huangshan and passed Qiankou. The house is built near the mountain and the stream, which is a secluded and beautiful scenery. The author expresses the mountains and rocks with folded band and dry pen and thirsty ink, and gains the beauty of the quiet and cold mountains and forests in Huizhou; Draw the willow silk with vigorous and neat lines, and get the vitality. Its concise and elegant writing and ink complement the simplicity of Wang’s residence, reflecting the refined spirit of Wang’s ambition to be aloof and self-reliant, and to be happy to travel in Linquan
The signature of the article: “Scholars of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river of the river”. On the top of the painting is a seven-letter poem written by Luo Yi, which reads: “The eighty-five old friend Luo Yi is inscribed by Mr. Zitao.”. The collection is printed with “Li Geng Tang” and other two sides. In the middle right of the picture is the seal character “Gengzi”. “Gengzi” is the seventeenth year of Shunzhi in the Qing Dynasty (1660). The author was 51 years old
