Sapphire seed material, clear, 23.4 cm long, 17 cm wide and 13 cm high
Dark blue jade, with a little jade skin in some parts. Pebble shaped, without any processing trace, is a piece of Hotan Jade left over from the Qing Palace
The raw materials of jade are mainly divided into mountain materials and seed materials, and the seed materials are most expensive. The mountain material is the primary jade ore in the mountain, which is mostly irregular blocks after mining. The seed comes from the jade ore produced in the river. The primary mineral deposits are stripped out of blocks through geological movement, and become smooth and round pebble-shaped seed after a long time and long distance of water impulse rolling
In the 24th year of Qianlong’s reign in the Qing Dynasty (1759), the Junggar region of Xinjiang was pacified, and jade materials were able to enter the mainland in large quantities from Hotan, Yeerqiang and other regions, and the production and scale of palace jade products had an unprecedented development
