[Wang Yi’s bamboo rolling-horse pen holder]

Wang Yi’s bamboo rolling-horse pen holder is clear, 13.9 cm in height, 10.1 cm in diameter and 10 cm in bottom diameter
The pen holder is round and has three short feet. The relief on the outer wall is a horse rolling and lying on its back, with the head held high, the front foot bending left, and the back foot dancing in the air. There was a knight standing beside him, calm and calm. The movement and silence enhance the dramatic effect of the picture. On the other side of the pen holder, there are 10 characters in the running script “Born in the wild of the peach forest, Out of the valley of the Po Li”, and the running script title reads: “The king of Jiading easily touched Zhao Songxue, and made it in the south window of the inky small building. It was six years old at that time.”
This pen holder with the theme of horse rolling is not unique. Wu Zhifan, a famous bamboo carver in the early Qing Dynasty, also has a horse rolling pen holder. In comparison, the composition is quite similar, and Wang Zuo’s technique also seems to be derived from Wu’s “Pottery Yangwen”. This penholder combines relief and intaglio, increases the changes of the table, and the knife technique is neat and fluent. It is also an excellent work in Jiading bamboo carving of the Qing Dynasty, which has been handed down to this day
