“Liangyuan Flying Snow Map” axis, Qing Dynasty, Yuanjiang painting, silk version, color setting, 202.8 cm vertically and 118.5 cm horizontally
The title of this painting is: “The snow in Liangyuan is flying, and the Gengzi painted on Yuan Jiang in the summer of the Han Dynasty.” The seal is “Yuan Jiang’s seal” and “Wen Tao”
“Liang Yuan”, also known as “Rabbit Garden”, is a private garden built by Liu Wu, King of Liang Xiao in the Han Dynasty. Its former site is said to be in the southeast of Kaifeng, Henan Province. The king of Liang Xiao, Yahao Wenhan, made extensive acquaintance with famous literati at that time, such as Sima Xiangru, Mei Cheng, Zou Yang, and so on. Many people lived in the park for a long time and were happy to leave. Therefore, “Liang Yuan” is famous. Li Bai, a poet of the Tang Dynasty, said: “Once you go to Beijing, you can take ten passengers to Liangyuan”, which is the allusion. In this picture, the author places this historic famous garden building in the snow scene in winter. A large space is left on the courtyard, roof and rocks to show the thick snow. The exquisite palace is more magnificent against the snow. The cold weather did not affect the warm atmosphere in the park. The hall was brightly lit, singing and dancing were noisy, and the luxurious feast was at the climax
This work is the representative work of Yuan Jiang’s pavilion boundary painting. The focus of the author’s creation is the gorgeous architecture. The even and straight lines outline the details of the house, the dense arch of wooden architecture, and the exquisite panes, showing superb boundary painting skills. At the same time, the author also notes the contrast between the surrounding environment and the natural atmosphere, making the picture poetic.
