A satra is said to have been introduced into Mongolia at the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty. Its shape and movement are similar to chess. This kind of chess was introduced into the mainland as late as the early Qing Dynasty. The chess pieces are pictographs, with a total of 32 pieces, including two generals, two guns, four elephants, four horses, four chariots and sixteen soldiers.
