[Picture of cotton in Yu Province]
The picture of cotton in Qing Dynasty, Yu Province, paper, color setting, 16.7cm vertically and 51.4cm horizontally
The fan page has its own title: “Lu Ting Yu Province in the autumn of the Jiawu Festival.” The seal of “Zeng San” is Zhu Wenyin
“Jiawu” is the 53rd year of Kangxi (1714), and Yu Province was 23 years old
A cotton with flowers and leaves is painted in the middle of the picture. As a cash crop, cotton is neither fragrant nor colorful, and has never been listed as the creative subject of flower and bird paintings. Therefore, the same title of Huixiao on the edge of the fan, “This fan writes about cotton is also ancient.” This picture is drawn with exquisite brushwork, and the color is elegant and fresh. Unfortunately, the white in the flowers turns into black and yellow, which reduces the color of the painting a lot. On the left is the seven-character poem of “Baishiweng” recorded by Yang Jin, a 71-year-old local famous painter and fellow artist in the province. It not only balances the relationship between the left and right sides of the fan, but also adds more cultural flavor to the painting and the friendship of fellow artists outside the painting
