Blue and white jade flat square, clear, 32.30 cm long, 2.90 cm wide. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The flat square used by empresses in the Qing Dynasty is the most distinctive of the hairpins, also known as the “big flat hairpin”. It runs through the bun and is mostly made of gold, silver, jade and other materials. This flat white jade is warm and moist. It is flat and long, and its head is in the shape of five plum flowers. The hairpin body is hollowed-out with ten thousand characters, and its surface is polished.
