This picture is a seasonal painting by Wang Shimin for the Dragon Boat Festival. It depicts several seasonal flowers in early summer, such as calamus, hollyhock, hairpin and rose. It is a folk custom to weave calamus and wormwood into sections during the Dragon Boat Festival to fumigate mosquitoes, so calamus and wormwood are the representatives of the Dragon Boat Festival. The flowers painted in this picture are concise, clean, fresh and elegant, and represent the auspicious and festive mood. This picture is a rare ink flower by Wang Shimin in his later years
