[Tufted Huangdi lotus branch flower sea water edge carpet]
Tufted Huangdi lotus branch flower sea water edge carpet, woven in Xinjiang in the late Qing Dynasty. 340 cm long and 175 cm wide. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The carpet is made of cotton warp and weft. The warp and weft are all five strands in one strand. The twist direction is “Z” shape. The plush is tied with “8” shaped buckles with colored silk thread, and 88 colored wefts are added every 30.5cm. The blanket is woven with blue, moon white, light blue, yellow, rust red and gray threads. The outer edge of the blanket is decorated with sea water cloud pattern, and the inner edge of the blanket is looped. The center of the blanket is a lotus, with the “cross” on both sides as the skeleton to weave the lotus, with small flowers, flower vines, and leaves in the middle, which are arranged repeatedly as a pattern unit. The color matching pays attention to the contrast between cold and warm, which increases the clarity of the pattern
The sea water and cloud patterns on the edge of the carpet are an important information about the changes in the traditional patterns of Xinjiang carpet. In the middle of the Qing Dynasty, with the frequent cultural and artistic exchanges between the mainland and Xinjiang, patterns such as “rivers and mountains for generations”, “sea and river cliffs”, and bats were constantly introduced into Xinjiang. Influenced by this, the carpet design in Xinjiang in the late Qing Dynasty began to be new, that is to say, the flower decoration advocated by the nation was integrated with the traditional patterns in the mainland. This carpet is one of them
