Yuan Yaojiu’s Palace Map Axis

[Yuan Yao’s Jiucheng Palace Map Axis]

The Jiucheng Palace Map axis, Qing Dynasty, Yuan Yao’s painting, silk, color, 189.7 cm vertical and 230.7 cm horizontal
The title of this picture is “Jiucheng Palace, painted by Yuan Yao in the Jiawu, Qing and Winter Han Dynasties.” The seal is “Yuan Yao’s seal” and “Zhao Daoshi”
This picture is based on diagonal composition, and the proportion of buildings in the picture is small. However, the author intends to place the buildings in the visual center of the audience, making them stand out in the background of heavy mountains and heavy rivers. Du Fu, a famous poet, once wrote a poem about Jiucheng Palace. Yuan Yao drew this picture according to his poetic imagination. Although the palace palaces painted by Yuan’s father and son have their own allusions, the styles are mostly the same. They are full of decorative interest without obvious characteristics of the times. The same is true of the costumes of the characters in the paintings. Although they are ancient costumes, they are not Tang and Song dynasties.
