In May of the second year of Shunzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty (1645), Wang Duo, as the minister of rites in the Hongguang Dynasty of the Southern Ming Dynasty, fell to the Qing Dynasty in Kaicheng, Nanjing, and became a “second minister”. In the first month of the third year (1646), he was appointed as the former official in charge of the bachelor’s degree of Hongwen Academy and the vice president of Chongming History. Although it is an unofficial job, it is used by the new dynasty after all. Compared with the previous difficult support in the political vortex, everything seems to be calm. The temporary content of the work is “Emperor Xiaowu of the Jin Dynasty” and other Wei and Jin people’s notes in “Your Notes”. “Ru Tie” refers to the Cong Tie carved in Ruzhou (now Linru County, Henan Province) by Wang Cai, the governor of Ruzhou, in the third year of Daguan in the Northern Song Dynasty (1109). This post is a collection of 12 volumes, including Chunhua Pavilion Posts, Jiang Posts, Tan Posts and Wang Cai’s own calligraphy. The titles include: epigraphy of the three dynasties, inscriptions of the Qin, Han and the three kingdoms, the imperial books of the Eastern Jin and Southern Dynasties, the people’s books of the Wei and Jin Dynasties, the seventeen books, the people’s books of the two kings, the people’s books of the Southern and Northern Dynasties, the emperors and empresses of the three Tang dynasties and the ministers’ books, etc. Wang Duo had strict arrangements for his calligraphy activities in his life, that is, one day to copy and one day to seek. This copycat work shows that in his later years, he still lingered in the ancient copycat and studied the ancient style. However, this kind of copying is not blindly imitative. The brushwork, structure, cloth white and ink method in the works are both original and ingenious, delicate and subtle, showing Wang Duo’s meticulous exploration and extraordinary achievements in the art of calligraphy in his later years.
