“Rain Washing Mountain Root Map” axis, Qing Dynasty, Kun Canhua, paper book, ink pen, 103 cm vertically and 59.9 cm horizontally
This painting was made in the second year of Kangxi’s reign (1663), when the painter was 52 years old. The painter painted the fresh and pleasant scenery of the mountains and rivers after the rain with crisp strokes. The painting highlights the scenes closely related to rain, such as the drooping forest leaves, the running waterfalls, the infiltration of streams and the flow of clouds. The composition is dense and rigorous, the pen is skillful and vigorous, and the artistic conception is far and deep.
