Han Ximeng Embroidery Song and Yuan Dynasty Monuments Collection · Rice Painting Landscape], Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty, 33.4 cm in length and 24.5 cm in width
This picture is the fifth of the “Han Ximeng Embroidery of the Song and Yuan Dynasty Monuments”. It is made by imitating the Linmi painting on the white silk floor. The embroidery is painted in thick ink. The mountains in the distance are undulating. There are a few light colored clouds in the mountains, and the forests are covered in the mist. The picture shows the scene of “rain at night and smoke at dawn”, and renders the moist and flowing feeling of the mountains and rivers in the south of the Yangtze River, where the water vapor is stagnant and the haze is diffuse. There are many sailboats in the river, and the fisherman wearing a hat is looming in the bow of the boat. Nearby, the vegetation in Tingzhou is clear and vigorous. In the composition of the picture, the distance is virtual and the near is real, and the details are slightly detailed. The steepness of the distant peaks and the flat length of the nearby Tingzhou complement each other, and the visual beauty is achieved by the balance of space. In particular, the setting of the sail in the middle of the river is quite a finishing touch. The full drum and publicity of the sail show its vigorous vitality, which is particularly striking in a light cloud, soft water, quiet and relaxed atmosphere, which may be the embodiment of the author’s mood
Embroideries are completely expressed in different shades of ink, without any other colors. Most of them are painted with large pieces of surface, and the embroiderers use less, and only a few of them are used, such as set needle, grab needle and loose needle. This changes the characteristics of Gu embroidery, which is fine and dense, and rich in color lines. But this is also the flexible adjustment made by Han Ximeng according to the characteristics of the original painting content and techniques, so that the beautiful ink color and elegant style of landscape ink charm can be fully displayed, and the connotation of the original painting is extremely successfully reproduced
On the opposite page, Dong Qichang wrote a poem: “The Southern Palace is touching the pen, and the magic needle comes at night. The silk and ink photo is taken, and the mountains are far away and the clouds are deep. Who can enter the forest when you enjoy the beauty of the park. You linger and wait, and you can hear the howling sound.”
