Han Ximeng’s Embroidery of Song and Yuan Monuments Collection · Ruilu Map, Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty, 33.4 cm vertically and 24.5 cm horizontally
This is the second picture of Han Ximeng Embroidery of the Song and Yuan Dynasties, embroidered on white silk. The embroidery depicts a sika deer strolling leisurely along the fragrant shore of osmanthus. In the picture, only part of the bottom and branches of the osmanthus tree are exposed, and the rest are slightly removed, but the bottom and branches echo each other, which still makes people feel the integrity of its image. With dark brown fur and black antlers, white spots and bright eyes, the young deer is lively, alert and energetic. The deer body is embroidered with a flat sleeve needle. The hair is fine and the texture is clear. The longevity stone in the water is hollowed-out, and the outline of the stone is represented by dark blue, lake blue and light blue halos using the needle snatching method. The light green, light orange and light yellow are interspersed, and the ethereal image of the void suddenly appears. The stone on the shore is mainly made of loose needle technique, supplemented by spot dyeing, which is quite ink effect and thick. So virtual and real, light and dark complement each other, making the picture vivid and smooth
On the opposite page, Dong Qichang wrote a poem: “The six laws are exquisite, and you are a thousand years old. You can see me in the corner, and you can see the jade in the corner. The fist stone is fragrant, and it is salty and spiritual. The needle silk generates the waves, and the king of painting will meet.”
