Han Ximeng’s Embroidery of Song and Yuan Dynasty Monuments Collection · Huaxi Fishing Hidden Map, Chongzhen of the Ming Dynasty, 33.4 cm in length and 24.5 cm in width
This picture is the eighth of “Han Ximeng Embroidery of the Song and Yuan Dynasties”, which is embroidered on the white silk floor. The embroidery picture is composed of distant mountains, rivers and beaches, and the space treatment is complicated and simple. The undulating distant mountains show the meaning of distance with their low potential. The river is vast, and a fisherman fishing alone in a boat in the cold river is lonely against the broad river. The nearby beach is detailed and depicted, and the grass and trees are dense and clear, which is still in front of us. It is deeply rooted in the essence of Wang Meng’s painting of tree dots and rendering, and one tree one method. What is particularly striking is that an old pine rose from the ground in the low grass and trees, towering and vigorous, adding the soaring charm of sudden rise in the quiet atmosphere
A variety of stitches are used in this embroidery. The trunk of the mountain stone is embroidered with “harmony needle” and “grab needle”, the willow branches and leaves are embroidered with the same needle and the roadside stone sidelines are hooked, the pine leaves are embroidered with pine needles, and the canopies are embroidered with mesh needles. The lake rocks and slopes are painted with light colors and embroidered and painted together. The embroidery is fine but not stiff. The thin silk thread fully shows the dry ink, the hidden exposure of the pen and the circular fold of the lines and other painting techniques of the original work. However, after all, needle and thread cannot completely replace ink and ink. The ink charm of the original work, which is full of mountains and mountains, complex and elegant, and “looks gloomy and beautiful”, cannot be fully displayed in embroidery. This is due to the limitations of different art fields and artistic techniques, and cannot be demanding
On the opposite page, Dong Qichang wrote a poem: “Why do you need to be bright, the mountains are high and the water is empty. The heart is as light as the leaves, and the pine is as old as Jackie Chan. There is no end to the economy, the grass is green and the flowers are red. A rod in the hand, a thousand stacks of breeze.”
