[White glazed alum red color Arabic Persian disk]
White glazed alum red color Arabic Persian disk, Ming Zhengde, 3.9 cm high, 17.9 cm caliber, 11.9 cm foot diameter
White glaze is applied inside and outside the plate and inside the circle foot. Arabic is written in alum color inside and outside, and Arabic and Persian are written in alum color outside. The four Arabic words around the bottom of the plate are interpreted as “the noble and noble Allah”. The Arabic text in the center of the inner bottom is extracted from the Koran, which is interpreted as “you should not extend your hand completely, lest you become a repentant reprobate”. The Arabic interpretation on the outer wall of the plate is “the noble and honorable Allah said that whoever has done a good deed or a bad deed, he (Allah) will see that this is the reward of those who have done good deeds”. Among the three lines of text on the outer bottom, the middle line is Arabic, and the upper and lower lines are Persian. Together, it is interpreted as “Dimani Khan, Oman Sulaimansha”
Islam prevailed in the Zhengde period of the Ming Dynasty. Under its influence, the official kiln porcelain was decorated in Arabic and Persian, and the contents were mostly extracted from the Koran, which became one of the characteristics of the era of porcelain in that dynasty. This porcelain may have been ordered by a tribe or country in the Arab region (see Li Yihua: “Two pieces of Zhengde Arabic and Persian porcelain – also on the impact of Islamic culture”, “Journal of the Palace Museum”, 1984, Issue 3)
