The pot has a straight mouth, short neck, full shoulder, gradually converging below the shoulder, and round foot. The shoulder and neck are painted with blue and white water ripples, and the water surface floats with red, yellow and green flowers arranged alternately, implying falling flowers and flowing water. The abdomen is painted with a group of chrysanthemum butterflies and chrysanthemum bees, staggered up and down, with a flower between them. Apply white glaze inside the circle foot. The outsole is printed with blue and white regular script “Da Ming Cheng Hua Year System” in six characters and double lines, and the outer blue and white double lines
All the patterns on this pot are first outlined with green material, and all flowers are painted with green color, and flowers are painted with alum or yellow color. The wings of butterflies or bees are painted with green, red or purple. Among them, the most distinctive color is colorful purple, also known as poor purple color. The color is thick, and the surface is dry and dull, so there is a saying that “poor purple is thick, but no light”, which is unique to Chenghua Doucai
The lid attached to the jar should be fitted by the imperial kiln factory in Jingdezhen during the Qianlong period of the Qing Dynasty. The magenta and bean green colors on it are not seen on the Chenghua doucai porcelain. The color filling technique is also different from the casual style that the color material often overflows the contour line when filling the color in Chenghua, but is strictly controlled within the contour line of the blue and white double hook pattern
It can be seen from the “List of all the work done by the Manufacturing Office of the Heart Cultivation Hall” that the lid on this jar should be fitted by Tang Ying (1682-1756), the supervisor of pottery in the 13th year of Qianlong.
