[Blacken the corner square box of the travel map]

Blacken the corner square box of the travel map in the middle of the Ming Dynasty, with a height of 15.5cm, a caliber of 24-24cm, and a foot diameter of 18-18cm. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The box is square, with square corners, flat cover and short square feet. The whole body is painted with black paint, and there are three lines of red thread. The surface of the cover opens with the shape. The red lacquer brocade in the open light is carved with the patterns of the sky, the ground and the water. The brocade is carved with three old men walking along with the horse. The latter boy carries a bookcase and a drinking utensil, which seems to be the meaning of a trip in autumn. The edge of the cover and the bottom of the utensil are carved with peony and chrysanthemum patterns. The upper and lower edges are carved with curly grass patterns by means of rhinoceros. The foot is carved with a circle of back patterns. The inside and outside of the utensil are painted with black paint
This box carving method is special. The overall pattern is black paint. After the paint is scraped with an oblique knife, three lines of vermilion are exposed in the black pattern. Because the carved stones are uneven and the vermilion lines are between the black painted stones, a kind of chapped artistic effect is produced. The flowers on the wall of the box have red lines between each layer of petals from the inside to the outside, like the veins of flowers and veins outlined by pen and ink, which enhance the texture and layering of the patterns. Although this method of painting is the same as that of carving rhinoceros, the patterns carved are not carved rhinoceros, nor are they like to be carved in layers of color, but rather are carved in a way that uses an oblique knife to draw colors and pursue the beauty of lines, which is the characteristic of carving lacquer in the middle of the Ming Dynasty
