Xuande copper fumigation furnace

[Xuande copper fume furnace]

Xuande copper fume furnace, clear, 19.2cm high, 14cm caliber
The copper furnace has straight mouth, straight belly, round bottom, upright ears and flat feet. The cover is hollow and decorated with double dragon holding longevity pattern. The surface of the instrument is eel yellow, and its luster is introverted. The outsole is cast with “Da Ming Xuan De Nian System” in regular script. According to the dragon pattern, it should be an imitation of the Qing Dynasty. The smoke trace in the cover is clear, which is obviously caused by frequent use
According to the “Xuande Yi Ware Manual”, Emperor Xuande felt that the Ding Yi set up in the inner court, the ancestral temple and the suburban altar was “indecent and slightly tasteless”, so he used the wind-grinded copper offered by Siam and other places, referring to the “Xuanhe Bogu Map”, the “Archaeological Map” and other patterns, as well as the “elegant people” of Chai, Ru, Guan, Ge and Ding Kiln to recast all kinds of bronze ware, and the copper furnace is the best of them. At the end of the Ming Dynasty, some scholars equated Xuande bronzes with Yongle carved lacquer, Jingtai enamel and Chenghua doucai, calling them “exquisite and ancient”. The imitation of Xuande bronze wares probably began at the end of the Ming Dynasty, and reached its climax during the Yongzheng and Qianlong periods of the Qing Dynasty. Records of the making of “Xuande bronze” can often be seen in the work files of the Qing Palace Building Office
This copper furnace is donated to Mr. Wu Jingzhou
