[Sweet white-glazed monk hat pot]
Sweet white-glazed monk hat pot, Ming Yongle, 19.7 cm high, 16.7 cm long and 7.5 cm long
The pot is commonly known as “monk hat pot” because its mouth looks like a monk’s hat. Wide neck, bulging belly, thin bottom, round foot. A wide-band crank is arranged from the mouth to the neck on one side of the pot body, and a duck-mouth shaped flow channel is arranged on the opposite side. The whole body is covered with sweet white glaze
This pot is dignified and beautiful, its glaze is quiet and translucent, and its glaze is white as congealed fat. The beautiful shape of the pot is matched with the sweet glaze, which complement each other
This pot style is based on the metal utensils used by Tibetan Buddhism. Porcelain products were first seen in the blue-and-white glazed porcelain of the Yuan Dynasty. During the Yongle and Xuande periods of the Ming Dynasty, Sino-Tibetan cultural exchanges were frequent. The Jingdezhen Imperial Ware Factory fired a large number of monk hat pots, of which white and red glazed products were the most valuable. In the Qing Dynasty, the Kangxi Dynasty imitated the white-glazed and red-glazed monk hat pots of Yongle and Xuande.
