The works of the Yongle Dynasty in the Ming Dynasty with landscape characters as the theme generally use three different brocade patterns to represent the three spaces of heaven, earth and water, and then carve the figure scenery on the brocade patterns. The treatment of water patterns in the Ming Dynasty is different from that in the Yuan Dynasty. The water patterns in the carved lacquer of the Yuan Dynasty are expressed in curved and smooth lines, like waves surging and flowing. Yongle water pattern is represented by wavy lines, without flowing feeling, and is a completely patterned pattern.
