The explanatory text of the volume of “Xing Shu Zha”
This volume has the seal of “Ting” and “Can”
This is the five letters written by Dong Qichang, addressed to “Taijia”, “Laoqinjia” and “Laoqinweng” respectively. They do not exactly refer to the name of the trustee, but are supposed to be written to the same person according to the tone of the letters. In addition to the usual greetings, thanks and other statements, the letter also talks about many aspects, including national affairs and family affairs. What is particularly noteworthy is that every communication talks about the appreciation and collection of calligraphy and painting, involving Juran, Li Cheng, Zhao Danian, Zhao Mengfu, Ni Zan, Wu Zhen, Yao Shou and other families. It can be seen that Dong Qichang should have more leisure in his hometown at this time, and enjoy painting and calligraphy, and the recipient is also a person skilled in painting and calligraphy appreciation, so there is much talk in correspondence. These books are of certain value to the investigation of Dong’s life story and calligraphy and painting activities. Among them, Zhao Mengfu’s picture of Dongting East Mountain still exists
From the perspective of calligraphy style, the strokes are mature and exquisite, elegant and natural, but there are some changes between the letters, which may be caused by the slight gap in writing time.
