Payment Department:… Dong Qichang wrote and merged the book Wei Yingjia’s seal amount Xu Biaojian. There is Shen Quan’s postscript. “Wang Hongxu Seal”, “Anyi Zhou Family Treasure”, “Qianlong Royal Treasure”, “Shiqu Treasure Collection” and other internal seals. It is the old collection of Wang Hongxu, An Qi, Zhang Ruoan, and the Qing Dynasty
The layout of the stele in this volume is sparse and symmetrical. It is also the work of Dong Qichang in his later years. Its book is “gradually aging, gradually maturing, and then returning to plain”, which embodies the beauty of life and the clumsiness of nature. Dong Qichang commented on himself: “Compared with Zhao Wenmin, the rest of the book has its own advantages and disadvantages. The lines are dense, and the thousands of words are the same, so we are inferior to Zhao. If we imitate the past dynasties, Zhao gets its eleven, and I get its seventeen. Also, Zhao’s book gets its beauty because of its familiarity and vulgarity. My book often leads the way, and when I make the meaning, Zhao’s book also turns to one.” (Rongtai Collection) expresses its artistic pursuit. Bao Shichen of the Qing Dynasty said, “Huating was recorded in Jihai (Xu Hao), and the reference was Beihai (Li Yong), Xiangyang (Mi Fu), and the late conversion to the plain (Gu Zhenqing), and was close to Liu (Gongquan) and Yang (Ningshi), two young masters. Therefore, his books can show ancient simplicity in their appearance, and learn from the calligraphers.” Dong Lin’s ancient books are similar in appearance, but he is good at absorbing the ingenuity of the ancient people’s pen and shape combination, Harmony and change become one’s own appearance and avoid “slavery”, break through the fence of the Ming Dynasty that deliberately copied and selected the ancient, see the world with the spirit of free and unrestrained brushwork, introduce the old and bring forth the new, and make people’s minds open.
