Bamboo Carved Pine Pot, made by Pu Zhongqian in the Ming Dynasty, is 12.3 cm high and 8.4 cm in diameter. The old collection of the Qing Palace
The pot is in the shape of a natural tree stump. The author adopts the deep relief technique, using a section of old pine trunk as the pot body, with a branch on one side attached to the tree body and curled up into a handle, with a broken stem for flow. The lid of the pot is cleverly carved into branches and leaves, which are twisted like buttons and connected with the trunk of the pot. The two characters of “Zhongqian” in regular script are hidden under the handle of the pot
This pot was made in the Wanli and Tianqi periods of the Ming Dynasty (1573-1627), and is one of Pu Zhongqian’s many fine works. According to the natural shape of the material, the author carefully designed and skillfully carved it. The tree body is old and inflexible, covered with scales, and matched with branches and leaves. It is exquisite and elegant. Emperor Qianlong has repeatedly praised Pu Zhongqian for his artistic style of bamboo carving, which is round and leaves no edge
