Youtong Rhinoceros Horn Cha Cup

[Youtong Rhinoceros Cha Cup]

Rhinoceros Cha Cup, clear, made of Youtong, 11.7cm high, 27cm long and 8.7cm wide
The cup is made of a wide angle that is as long as a boat. According to the shape of rhinoceros horn, the author skillfully made the cup of immortal riding tenon by using various techniques such as round carving and relief. The tenon head is like the petals of ganoderma lucidum. The middle and rear part of the tenon is surrounded by plum flowers, peonies and lotus flowers. It looks like a boat canopy. Under the canopy, an old man sits with Ruyi in his hand, legs up, and head up to the sky. The old man has a cup mouth in front of him. The mouth is not very round. There is a round hole connected with the cup mouth. The end of the tenon is carved with water ripples splashed by spray. In the belly of the cup is engraved with the imperial poem of Emperor Qianlong in regular script and the two square seals of “Bide” and “Langrun”. The front of the Cha head is carved with the seal characters “Zaihua Jiazi” and “Youtong”, with the small seal of “Rain Source” under it
This Cha Cup was made in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties. It is one of Youtong’s many rhinoceros horn works. It is bright and clean, and its color is as light as a chestnut. Because the rhinoceros horn is long, yellow on both sides, and dim in the middle, the author skillfully made the rhinoceros horn into a chopping boat, carved the trunk of the tree on the boat, gently carved the spray along the boat, and carved the figure of leisurely, confident, rushing to the waves
This rhinoceros horn Cha cup is hidden in the Qing Dynasty palace. In 1783, Emperor Qianlong found this work in the antique box, and highly praised Youtong’s carving technology. He wrote poems with imperial inscriptions many times to praise Youtong’s skills, and made notes to verify Youtong’s works. This naturally shaped and exfoliated rhinoceros horn immortal Cha cup is unique in artistic design and carving techniques. It is indeed a treasure of rhinoceros horn utensils in the late Ming and early Qing dynasties
